Easter Island/Salas y Gomez 2-23 September 1995
Cordell Expeditions

There were a number of people who were absolutely instrumental in making the expeditions operations successful while we were on Easter Island. Unfortunately, I cannot supply images of the them right now, but I can give them much deserved credit for their efforts:

GAIL KRUSE: Without Gail's stellar efforts as Camp Manager, every single one of us probably would have starved. Gail kept the main tent running smoothly and spent hours involved in the unglamorous grunt work that is necessary in making a remote expedition succeed. THANK YOU VERY MUCH GAIL, from me (Webmaster Gunthar) and the entire crew.

MARTIN TOSSEYN: A veteran of the Peter I expedition, Martin was another integral part of the Camp crew. Martin managed the expedition warehouse and kept inventory of supplies. Particularly appreciated is his fantastic sense of humor and awesome story telling ability. Martin, you can be in my TV shows anyday.

Without the help of key Rapanui citizens we wouldn't have gotten anywhere.

The proprietors of the OTAI HOTEL: Nico Jr., Nico Sr., and Rosita. We stayed in their beautiful hotel on our way in and out and Nico Jr. was our constant trouble shooter. They supplied our main tent (left by the "Rapa-Nui" film crew) and the mammoth Mercedes truck that hauled our gear to camp.
Alberto, one of the truly strongest men I have every met, drove the truck and tossed around generators like pillows.
MARIA!!! She cooked our evening meal and was a good friend to Gail. Her hearty cooking made this the only adventure trip I've been on where I probably gained weight.
Eugenio, the zodiac pilot and dive captain. Eugenio worked tirelessly to get the divers where they needed to go. And he was a good friend to me. If you get to Rapanui, check out the discos!
Ricardo Menzel: Navy Commandant on the Island. Without the support of the Chilean Navy, none of this would have happened. We owe Ricardo and the other Navy service-people who helped secure permits and transported the Salas y Gomez crew to and from the island a huge THANKS!

In other news, production of the Easter Island DXpedition video is underway. Release on VHS cassette is set for winter 1996. RaangiChaangi Visionwerks and Crack Video Productions of Oakland, California have been contracted to edit the video footage shot by the expedition participants into a 45 minute program.
